Introduction

Welcome all!

We hope you are all as intrigued by Eastern Medicine as we are! Our names are Emma Pearson and Sarah Swig, and we are so glad you will be following us on our journey through the Eastern world with our Western eyes.

Seniors at Menlo School get the privilege of spending the month of May exploring a topic of interest to foster a love of learning. Seniors do not have regular classes and are expected to devote a full school day's work to their project throughout the month of May. We have decided to experience, research, and analyze the effectiveness of Eastern medicinal practices. To accomplish this, we will study five primary areas of Eastern medicine: acupuncture, yoga/pilates, medicinal herbs, reiki healing, and reflexology. We will research the history and benefits of these practices as well as experience them for ourselves. At the end of our project, we will draw upon our research and experiences to assess the validity of these Eastern treatments. Overall, we hope to gain an in-depth understanding of this mysterious and lesser known aspect of medicine and how it does or does not fit into our society.

We will update our blog often, making sure to keep you up to date with the progress of our project. We will upload pictures and videos too! We would love to hear your feedback, advice, questions, and concerns.

ENJOY and keep reading!

  1. Hi Sarah and Emma,
I enjoyed your post and I can sympathize with your pain. I remember all too well when we visited Lake Austin spa and I spent the entire first Pilates class falling over every time I tried the "downward dog." Finally, I gave up and tried the fetal position against the wall. That worked for a while. Anyway, I gave it another shot and really enjoyed it. I predict you will, too

I have one request - when you get to your Acupuncture segment I need to see a video!

I'll be anxiously awaiting and learning from your posts. Keep up the good work.

    Cathy
